The Maritime Republic of Eastport

Has, In Deadly Earnest, Irrevocably Issued a Challenge to the
City of Annapolis, State of Maryland
and the United States of America

To Meet Upon That Most Historic of Sites:
The GULF OF EASTPORT
(often mistakenly referred to as Annapolis Harbor)
Saturday, November 2, 2002 at the Crack of Noon

To Engage in An Event to Benefit Deserving Local Charities: The 5th Annual
TUG-OF-WAR
ACROSS THE HARBOR

that Time-Honored Contest of Strength, Endurance, and Resolve
to Determine
Superiority and Sovereignty Over That Noble Body of Water.

Those Accepting this Challenge need only Provide 33 Able-Bodied Pullers who will Dedicate Strength & Zeal (& Donation Pledges of at Least $20 per Puller) to "Their Side" of the Rope
(at Campbell Park), to Compete Against 33 Loyal Citizens of the
MARITIME REPUBLIC OF EASTPORT,
who will Assemble at the Other End of the Rope,
Situated at the Foot of Second Street, Aside the Chart House.

At Equal Distances from the Center, the Rope will be Interwoven with Ceremonial Flags. It will then be Passed Through Anchored Rings Before an Anchored Yacht Containing Officials and Dignitaries From Each Side.

At the Appointed Hour of the Crack of Noon, the NOBLE STRUGGLE will Begin. The Team that Pulls Their Flag Through Their Respective Ring will Be Feted and Declared the Undisputed Champion and Will Enjoy Sole and Sovereign Rights Over The Gulf of Eastport.

As is customary for any honor-bound recipient of a formal challenge,

The Winning Side will Direct 60% of Total Donations to Charities of Choice,
the Losing Side 40%.
