FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Distribution of Tug of War Funds to Charities

Eastport, Md. -– Proceeds were recently distributed from the eighth annual Tug of War held October 29. Although the Annapolis side won all five tugs, both sides came out winners as the Maritime Republic of Eastport donated the event proceeds to selected local charities. The Tug draws on the rivalry between Eastport and the City of Annapolis. Civic pride on both sides allows this zany event to improve more than community morale. In addition to a riotous battle, great food and fantastic camaraderie, the Tug offers the chance to give back to the community that surrounds and supports us. The event has raised more than $165,000 for charities over the past seven years.

On December 12, representatives from the designated charities attended the evening distribution event held at the Rockfish Restaurant. Each of the six charities received a check for $2,140.30 (Eastport’s zip code is 21403). Each year, proceeds from the Tug go to a selection of local charities, some of which rely on this donation as a significant part of their operating budget. The selected charities this year who received donations are: Reading is Fundamental at Eastport Elementary School, Light House Shelter, Annapolis Maritime Museum, OIC Job Readiness Center, Civil Air Patrol, and the SPCA of Anne Arundel County.
