FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MRE TO BUILD A BOAT FOR CHARITY
June 21-22
But... is there a nefarious scheme afoot?

Maritime Republic of Eastport—With the populace of the Annapolis area eagerly anticipating the Build a Boat Challenge at the Annapolis Yacht Club this coming weekend, members of the Maritime Republic of Eastport (MRE) have reportedly uncovered a scheme devised by various and unsavory characters to manipulate the contest with the assistance of some of the well-known yacht builders in the area. Although we are unwilling at this time to divulge the names of the involved, due to the ongoing investigation, it has become quite clear that there is a conspiracy at hand, designed for the sole purpose of defeating the renowned MRE team, led this year by the unsurpassable talent of Mike Raab and Lance Curran.

The Annapolis Yacht Club Build-A-Boat Challenge is an annual event meant to foster teamwork, bribery and beverage consumption by requiring teams to build a seaworthy vessel out of the materials supplied by AYC, such as Sikaflex marine adhesive, plywood, a caulk gun, and some 2x2s, 1x2s and a 2x4. It has become apparent that the other entrants in this event are well aware of the MRE’s vessel-building capabilities, shown through such past projects as the Submarine of 2001 and the Amphibious Assault Vessel, and have chosen to resort to devious undertakings in order to undermine the MRE’s effort.

Raab and Curran remain undaunted, however, by this malicious and amoral attempt to beat the MRE through the use of high-faluting designers and builders. There will be a Build-A-Boat meeting to discuss the plans for this weekend’s event and how the MRE will thwart the competition, regardless of how deceptive and malevolent they may be, at the Fleet Reserve Club on Wednesday, June 17 at 7 pm.

The Build-A-Boat challenge is open to everyone and volunteers are needed in all areas. Some of the positions available are: cook, caterer, custom official, jello shooter maker, penalty getters (judge liaisons), water balloon throwers, super shooter marksmen, boat builder, lollygagger, loiterers, and much more. One of the primary efforts, aside from building a boat, is out bribing the 15 judges with food, good looks, and more. If you are willing and able to bring these to the event, the MRE needs your help.

The MRE is also looking for sponsors to help in this pursuit. Sponsors help defray costs and donate money to local charities, and the sponsoring business names will appear on the MRE’s vessel. The minimum amount for sponsorship is $5.00 and the maximum is $5,000,000.00. This is your chance to do good and have fun!

In short, get to the Fleet tomorrow and join the effort to Build-A-Boat and deny the rogues of their pleasure. If you can’t make it to the Fleet, but are interested in volunteering, please contact either Mike Raab (410-991-5997) or Lance Curran (443-995-4002), or just show up on Saturday or Sunday! MRE will prevail.

This is still an active investigation. Further releases will be forthcoming as warranted.

The AYC Build-A-Boat Challenge takes place June 21 and 22 at the AYC annex off 6th Street in the Maritime Republic of Eastport. The Construction Phase will occur on Saturday 21st, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the Sea Trials & Races will be on Sunday 22nd, starting at 1 p.m.

Please come and support the MRE!! This is a family friendly event!!!
