Missive From the Prime Mistress

Greetings Fellow Citizens,

I'd like to thank all of you who helped this past weekend at the Run /Dog Day. It was a successful day to say the least. There was much rejoicing, and as always with us, a good time had by all. And, we made money!! How about that!?!! There will be a full report at our next meeting.

The reason for my cheery message to you all is that We (the MRE) has been challenged to a Kite Making Competition. St. John's College, The US Naval Academy Alumni Association, and the Capital Newspaper has challenged us (and other groups in town) to the 4th annual Great Kite Fly at St. John's on Saturday, April 21, 2001.

Any style of kite may be entered, but the "trick" here is that the primary material used to build this kite must be the Capital Newspaper. The spars (sticks) can be made from wood, carbon, fiberglass, beer cans, old burnt socks, etc. ......... There will be a trophy and honor will be at stake! See the flyer.

This sounds like a lot of fun, and it can't wait till the next meeting to be brought up due the closeness of the date. If any of you are interested, contact me by email or phone (410 263-8646).

I am aware that Greenscape is on the same day as the Kite Challenge. The good news is that I have been approached with a design concept that is so good that I can't not accept this challenge. I have to work that day, but I am willing to help build this awesome kite before then.

The kite needs to fly for at least two minutes on 50 feet (or more) of line. The judging is between noon and 2 pm. The contact person at St. Johns said we could wait until after our next meeting (April 16) to officially enter.

I am estimating that it will take at most a couple of hours to build the kite. And in the spirit of tough competition, it will take just a couple of minutes to receive our First Place Medal on the day of the fly!!! Thanks for listening!!

Thanks !! Have a nice day,

Prime Mistress Cindy
