The .05K Bridge Run will be will be coordinated again this year by its Founder and Inventor Cindy Fletcher Holden, and will take place at the crack o'noon on Saturday, March 23rd at the Spa Creek Bridge.

The .05k Run, a "grueling" event, is expected test the endurance of finely tuned athletes from around the world. Last year's winner completed this Extreme Race in about 17 seconds (possibly wearing a pair of hiking boots). International race authorities are considering dubbing it the "Eastport Un-athalon Rubberman" competition.

All runners, joggers, and walkers, are welcome to enter. Registration will take place at Eastport Elementary School the day of the event. The modest registration fee of $15 will provide entrants with a "way cool t-shirt" and other goodies. A map of the racecourse will be provided along with a ticket to shuttle bus transportation from the registration site to the race start, and a runner's number for each entrant.

After the Run, everyone is invited to Eastport Elementary School for the awards ceremony, immediately followed by amazing feats from the feet of our four-footed friends.

Cindy needs volunteers to help out with this terrific and fun event, so if you can help in any way, contact her at fletcherart@juno.com or 410 263-8646.

The MRE Dog Day Afternoon will be coordinated agian this year by Liz West, and will take place immediately following the Bridge Run. The location is the Eastport Elementary School playground and we expect to have another amazing turnout of dogs of all sizes and shapes.... last year over 200 dogs took part (and brought their owners, too!).

It is an event celebrating the official mascot of MRE, the marina retriever, and all four-legged friends, is a delightful community event for kids (and mutts) of all ages.

Dogs and their humans will participate in all manner of contests and games. Some of the toughest competition will include the "Free-Style, Aerial Short Track, Triple Lutz Pretzel Toss," and prizes will also be awarded for the best Stupid Human/Dog Trick, Best Kisser (dog or human), for best doggie dancer, hairiest dog, best dog-human look-alike, and for the Dog/Human Pie Eating Contest.

There is an entry fee of just $10 for each dog, with proceeds benefiting Christmas in April's work in Eastport and the SPCA of Anne Arundel County.

Liz needs volunteers to help out with this absolutely crazy-fun event, so contact her at lizrosswest@hotmail.com or 410 990-0122.

By the way, Liz asks that you please start saving now all your newspaper bags, bread bags, or other bags or sacks for this event.... MRE is responsible for picking up all 'residue' from our 4-legged friends. Bring these to the next meeting please.
