MRE Challenge From Our Newest Neighbor

We've Got a Winner!

The MRE Challenge to help Dick and Susan Franyo select a name for their now-under-construction pub on the corner of 4th and Severn (the old Patton's) has a winner!

See Dick Franyo's note (below) to all MREers and Eastportaricans! MRE heartily congratulates the winner and his winning entry, which, by the way, was selected from 97 entries submitted through Tracey in the MRE Challenge, as well as dozens of others that the Franyos had thought of and considered. It's a great name and one that we can all feel good about.

I'm sure I speak for all of us in Eastport when I wish Dick and Susan the very best with their (no doubt) wonderful addition to our community, and thank them for picking a name nominated by one of our very own citizens!

Chris,

First of all I want to thank all fellow MRE members for their creative thinking regarding names. There were a lot of really good entries. I have found that naming a pub is even more difficult than naming a boat or a child. We have stuck to our May 31 deadline and made a decision.

The name is
Boatyard Bar & Grill ("BYB")

The winner is Mike Miron. Thanks, Mike, you win the $60 gift certificate.

Let me explain our logic--Besides your wonderful list, Susan and I have thought about every boat part, maritime name, people's names, etc., etc..... We chose Boatyard Bar & Grill for several main reasons. First, for as long as I can remember I have been fascinated by boats and boatyards--the sights, smells (varnish, paint, wood, oil and the Bay), and the inhabitants (an eclectic mix of workers, owners, dogs and other pets--always some real interesting characters, tools neatly stored and so on.) Secondly, Eastport is all about boatyards. We hope to carve above the bar the names of all of the old boatyards that are so much a part of our history. Lastly, like boatyards we hope to serve a variety of people who we hope will call our place home--our residents, people who work here and those who come to Eastport because of its maritime activities.

Again, thanks to everyone for their support. (The roofing system is finally on site and should be going up shortly. We still are hoping for a September opening.)
